Our Commitment to British Values
At The St Christopher School, we actively promote the fundamental British Values through everything we do. These values are woven into our daily practice, our curriculum, and our school culture, helping our learners develop as responsible, respectful citizens who can contribute positively to modern British society.

Democracy 
We teach our learners that their voice matters and that everyone has the right to be heard.
How we promote Democracy:
- Pupil voice activities – learners contribute to decisions about their learning and school life
- Class councils – giving learners opportunities to discuss issues and make choices
- Voting activities – from choosing activities to selecting school council representatives
- Choice-making – embedding decision-making into daily routines and learning
- Community participation – understanding how local and national democracy affects their lives
Example: Our learners vote on which residential activities they’d like to do, showing that everyone’s opinion is valued.
Rule of Law 
We help learners understand that rules and laws are there to keep everyone safe and ensure fairness.
How we promote Rule of Law:
- Clear school rules – explained in accessible ways with visual supports
- Consistent routines – helping learners understand structure and expectations
- Community visits – meeting police officers, fire service, and other community helpers
- Consequences and rewards – understanding that actions have outcomes
- Safety education – learning about laws that protect them and others
Example: During our community trips, learners practice road safety rules and understand why these laws exist to keep everyone safe.
Individual Liberty 
We celebrate each learner as a unique individual with their own rights, interests, and potential.
How we promote Individual Liberty:
- Personalised learning – every learner’s individual needs and interests are valued
- Freedom of expression – encouraging learners to share their thoughts, feelings, and creativity
- Individual goals – EHCP targets that reflect personal aspirations and abilities
- Choice and independence – developing skills to make their own decisions

Mutual Respect 
We create an environment where everyone is treated with dignity and kindness, regardless of their differences.
How we promote Mutual Respect:

- Anti-bullying culture – we do not accept disrespectful behaviour
- Celebrating achievements – recognising success at every level and in every form

Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs
